Your Monday Evening Briefing

Good evening. Here's the start of tonight's briefing. 
1. France's president, François Hollande, above right, received pledges of support from David Cameron, the British prime minister, in the fight against the Islamic State. Mr. Hollande is meeting with world leaders all week, including traveling to the White House on Tuesday. President Obama is under mounting pressure from some in his own administration to strengthen U.S. operations against the group in Syria and Iraq.
2. Mr. Hollande won't be the only leader on the move this week. Vladimir Putin traveled to Iran, but he was solidifying support for the West's other main opponent in Syria — the Syrian government. Iran's supreme leader criticized U.S. policy in the Middle East, telling Mr. Putin, "The Americans have a long-term plot and are trying to dominate Syria and then the whole region."
