Your Tuesday Evening Briefing
By ANDREA KANNAPELL AND SANDRA STEVENSON
Good evening. Here's the start of tonight's briefing. Go to the full briefing.
1. Planned Parenthood's president, Cecile Richards, appeared before a House panel to counter Republican attacks on her organization. "The latest smear campaign is based on efforts by our opponents to entrap our doctors and clinicians into breaking the law — and once again our opponents failed," she said.
2. Edward Snowden started his Twitter feed with a joke about surveillance —  "Can you hear me now?" — attracting hundreds of thousands of followers but following only one account: the N.S.A.'s. He tweeted back and forth with the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, saying, "Thanks for the welcome. And now we've got water on Mars! Do you think they check passports at the border? Asking for a friend."
