McCain: Obama Mideast policies 'almost criminal'
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., warned on Monday that the administration's approach in Afghanistan threatens to destabilize the region, with the latter calling President Obama's policies "almost criminal." Policies imposed by the administration last year prevented U.S. forces from engaging Taliban fighters except under limited circumstances, including self-defense, though the guidelines have been drawn back amid the terrorist group's resurgence. "The rules of engagement were so restrictive that it gave an advantage to the Taliban and other terrorist groups," McCain told reporters in Kabul.

Putin uses July 4 to call for improved U.S.-Russia ties
Russian President Vladimir Putin is calling for the U.S. to improve its relationship with his country. Speaking in a Fourth of July message to Americans, Putin said the countries have a history of working together to solve "the most difficult international problems to the benefit of both our nations and all humankind," and should look more to that model going forward.

Thousands of people who voted for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary are expected to fill campgrounds around the party's July convention for a movement to "Occupy the DNC." "We are getting phone calls constantly," said Cheryl Robinson, who owns a stake in 200 short-term campsites at a Four Seasons in Pilesgrove, N.J. "A lot of times they don't want to let us know that they're Bernie supporters," she told the Associated Press.
