The Times has a new section: Men's Style.
Men's Style is an intelligence report on fashion and culture geared to men (as well as those who love them, or just put up with them). It starts Friday and the section will appear in the paper the first Friday of each month.
It arrives as the men's fashion industry has been booming, driven by men more willing to spend money on how they look than they used to.
When I was growing up, men were a little embarrassed to admit that they cared about their appearance. Many thought nothing of going out in public dressed in rags, hair unkempt. But that was a departure from the historical norm.
Skip to the mid-1960s and earlier, and for the most part, guys took great pains to spruce. Thankfully, it seems we are back to the norm. The headline here is "Guys No Longer Such Slobs."
To whit, our first issue includes: a fashion shoot focused on new suits that are perfect for weekend dressing; a fly-on-the-wall profile of Lee Daniels, the mind behind the Fox hit "Empire"; an article on the surfing champion Kelly Slater, who has started his own fashion line; a first-person essay by the novelist Walter Kirn on his decision to allow his hair to go gray after years of secretly dyeing it; and a feature that attempts to answer the pressing question of the digital age, "Should Grown Men Use Emoji?"
There's much more, too, but why spoil it?
In the meantime, what follows is another crop of great stories from this week.
