Welcome to The Lid, your afternoon dose of the 2016 ethos… Two of Donald Trump's kids, Eric and Ivanka, failed to register in time to vote for their dad in the New York primary. Though we are not sure, we assume the punishment will be something along the lines of going to their penthouses and finishing their Trump University homework.
The Sky High Stakes for Trump in New York
Mon, 11 Apr 2016 21:24:21 GMT

From NBC's Carrie Dann and Andrew Rafferty

It was not a great weekend for Donald Trump. The GOP frontrunner got badly outhustled at Saturday's Colorado GOP convention, losing delegates to Ted Cruz and - perhaps more importantly - adding fuel to the narrative that his disorganization and lack of savvy about delegate rules could cost him the Republican nod. But Trump gets a couple of pieces of very good news in our brand-new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll, which shows him leading with 54 percent of the vote among the state's GOP primary voters. That's important because, if he wins a majority of the vote in the state next Tuesday, he'd have a good shot at capturing all 95 of New York's GOP delegates next week, a win he badly needs. Another positive talking point from the poll for Trump: fully two-thirds of the state's voters say that Trump should receive the nomination if he has the most delegates going into the convention, even if he doesn't hit the magic 1,237 number.

On the Democratic side, by the way, Hillary Clinton leads Bernie Sanders 55 percent to 41 percent among likely Democratic primary voters.
